In our quiet streets and manicured yards,
Lies a truth that most prefer to shun.
A watchful eye, unspoken rules abounds,
On the board of HOAs and PTA forums.

"I know all the secrets, see every face,
From those who keep to strictures tight,
To the outliers with their late-night noise,
Disrupting what we hold as right."

Property values rise and fall like tides,
A constant dance beneath my gaze.
Some bring stability, others sow unrest—
Each choice an impact for days.

"The school rankings must remain in sight,
Buyers notice patterns of the past.
Once reputation falls, it’s hard to lift,
So we guard with cautious, careful cast."

Whispers pass from house to house and street,
    Rumors of clandestine meetings late.
I smile at these tales, so wild and wide—
Fueled by what they dare not relate.

For I am more than just a social glue,
More than one who enforces rules.
I am the gatekeeper of value’s creed,
Ensuring that our streets are cool.

So if you ask me how things go here,
Why this or why that is so,
Just know it all revolves around us,
And property values, we must hold.

    Warmly,
    Karen M. Whitmore
