    you ever see a shape
    that's not quite there?

    it's the kind of thing
    you'd miss if you weren't
    staring at the screen
    at 3 AM
    with the monitor
    humming like a dying fan
    and the phone line
    whining static.

    it starts as a flicker--
    a jagged edge in the
    wrong shade of purple,
    then it moves,
    but not like anything
    living. more like
    a corrupted screenshot
    of something
    that was never meant
    to be seen.

    my friend drew it
    in ansi art once.
    blocky. 16 colors.
    a house with no doors,
    a tree with roots
    floating midair,
    a figure sitting
    on the roof
    but the figure is just
    a glitch--
    a repeated pattern
    of your own eyes
    when you blink too fast.

    you can't save it.
    if you try,
    it turns to noise.
    but if you stare,
    it stares back.

    (press enter to continue)
    (but you won't)
