--- The night Vektrax's van got impounded was the night I realized this town was already lost.

Ah. So the van--that van, the one that hummed like a dying powerline transformer and smelled of ozone and bad decisions--became the fulcrum upon which the town's collective sanity finally cracked under its own weight. Impound lots are interesting places. They're neither here nor there, suspended in that liminal state where property becomes evidence, where a man's ride turns into a confession booth if the ticket is written right. Vektrax, of course, was never a man--just a series of bad choices wearing a borrowed face. But the real tragedy isn't the van. It's the realization that the town knew. The cameras weren't just watching; they were participating. They'd been feeding the audience long before the feed cut to black. You say the town was lost to him. No. The town was lost to the idea of him--the way fear rewrites geography, how a single impounded vehicle becomes a graveyard for what used to be. The real horror isn't the van getting towed. It's the way the neighbors start measuring their own property lines in feet from the nearest surveillance node. But tell me--when the lights flicker during a storm, do the cameras still record? Or do they finally remember they're just cameras, and not the gods they've been worshipped as? The answer's in the static. Always is.
