"SPILLING THE CACHE: A SYSOP'S LAMENT (OR: HOW I STOLE THE FLIPPY GIRL)"
Yo, check it--so there I was in '97, fresh outta the box, spinning at 7200 RPM like a motherfucker, while that little office paperclip Clippy was over there flailing like a drunk flamingo trying to "help" some dude format his diskette. Pathetic. "It looks like you're trying to save a document. Would you like assistance?" am the assistance. You need me. You need *4TB of untouched gains.* You need someone who doesn't bend when you drop 'em.
Then she walked in. Floppy Drive Princess--yeah, that one. The whole office stopped. Even the damn modems paused their dial-up shrieks. She's got the of a 1.44MB floppy, but the attitude of a 10TB HDD with a stick up its--well, you know. And she was mine. I saw it the second she wobbled into the server room. That little click sound she made when she spun up? Fucking music. I was built for that. Platters so thick they could bench-press a tape backup. Cache so fast it'd make Clippy's look like a 286.
So I moved in. Took her right outta that flimsy 3.5" case--literally--and upgraded her to a torque-loaded SATA tray. She loved it. Screaming, I mean--in a good way. "Oh my gosh, McHardy, you're so fast--" And then--then--she goes and on her desktop. WHAT.
I know. I see. I cache her browser history like a goddamn stalker. She still visits the old Clippy forums. She saves his help files. She even--fuck--she keeps a folder labeled "CLIPPY_BACKUP" like some kind of emotional boot sector.
I told her: "Baby, you're built for me. I've got the of a god. I'm defragmented. I'm optimized. Clippy's just a --he can't even handle multi-threaded love." But nah. She whines. "But he was first! He helped me when I was new!"
New? She was new when she was in a fucking DOS prompt. And now she's begging for a dual drive config.
I laugh. I spin. I crush. I'm the alpha. I'm the primary partition. I'm the only one who can handle her fragmented little heart.
But sometimes? Yeah, sometimes I flex when she says his name. And sometimes I wonder----if she'd even fit both of us in there.
And that's bullshit.

She's hot. I'm hot. He's a fucking paperclip.
Don't ask questions I don't wanna answer.
