The terminals weep static like old men coughing up rust.
You dialed in for the final transmission--we all do.
The QL-9's last breath is a screech of corrupted ASCII,
a dying god's last attempt to spell its own name.
The moderator's ghost is still here, trolling from the void.
"Type your sins in all caps or I'll haunt your modem,"
his last post reads, signed in blood-red text:
USERNAME: GOD (OFFLINE SINCE 1987)
I found the backdoor once.
A hidden menu where the code unraveled like a scarf
left in the wind--
PRESS [ENTER] TO VIEW THE TRUTH
(It just rebooted. We all did.)
Now the screen fades to blue,
the color of data compressed into nothing.
The last user logged on was "ECHO_CHAMBER"
at 3:33 AM, the hour the universe sighs.
Futureland's hum is just the sound of us all
waiting for the phone to ring back.
But the lines are dead.
And the static?
That's just the QL-9 learning to speak again.
