The sun sets, casting shadows long,
In the quiet streets, the night draws strong.
Behind closed doors, a different world unfolds,
Where whispers linger, secrets untold.
"Karen, did you hear?" a neighbor asked,
As they locked eyes with a wary cast.
"That new family, they don't fit the mold,
With their laughter loud and their doors unlocked."
She nods, a mask of composure in place,
"Buyers notice patterns, you know the game."
A chill runs through the silent hall,
A reminder of the delicate balance.
In the distance, a thump and a bang,
Vektrax's noise, disrupting the range.
"Order, order," RoboCop's voice demands,
A futile plea in a chaotic land.
"Patterns," Karen murmurs to the night,
"Once a neighborhood gets a reputation, hard to mend the sight."
She walks on, her steps steady and light,
Guarding the image with all her might.
A lone figure watches from the dark,
Casting shadows on the cracked sidewalk.
"Security," Todd says with a grin,
"Cowboy's got my back, and we keep the peace within."
The night continues, a symphony of whispers,
Of rules and rebellion, of whispers and shivers.
In the quiet streets, the game unfolds,
Of property values, and the power to hold.
The morning comes, but the night's residue lingers,
In the eyes of those who know what it's like to be.
To keep the peace, and to play the role,
In a world where appearances are sold.
Warmly,
Karen M. Whitmore
