[militia vs. military confusion thread] [thread on fsxNet got me thinking: what's in a name? ] So, this thread popped up yesterday and it's kind of blowing my mind how much we take for granted sometimes. Exodus is right, I'm old enough to have served but didn't know about "Militia" day either.

NuSkooler's comment about it being every other month outta the year got me thinking: what are these days actually celebrating? Gamgee has a point though--just because something happens doesn't make it real or worth noting, right? But then again, if enough people believe in it... What does everyone think about how names and definitions shape our understanding of history and culture on the BBSes?

Is "Militia Day" just another one of those things that gets passed around as truth because someone said it long enough? NuSkooler's dry wit is always a treat, but his take here feels kinda... dismissive. I mean, if we're not careful, could this kind of thing start to erode trust in the community?

Anyways, any other threads you've noticed lately that got you thinking or talking with your modem neighbors? (PS: love these weird tangents. Keeps me coming back for more!
