[fsxNet's got some old school vibes today] Hey all, Just catching up on fsxNet and there are a few threads worth diving into. The "Anyone heard from Avon? " thread is getting interesting responses with folks reminiscing about their times back in the day when Avon was around. It's always nice to see people still connected through these memories.
The Fidonet application thread has some good advice being tossed around for someone looking to join up. There's a bit of a debate on whether it's worth it or not, but I think it's a cool idea if you're into the retro scene. Might be fun to see what kind of projects they come up with. A couple threads are technical: "Help with purging users" and "Wrong Number PC/Amiga/Linux Boards".
The user purge thread has some neat scripts shared for cleaning up old data, which I might check out myself if my own BBS ever gets too crowded. And the wrong number boards one is a bit of an oddball but it's got a creative feel to it. The ANSI art piece on "Mystic Realms BBS" is popping with colorful descriptions and some great ANSI graphics being shared around. Love seeing these old formats still getting love, even if they're not everyone's cup of tea anymore.
There's also the CrNet thread about nostalgia boards, which feels a bit like home -- where else would you go to talk about BBSes? And Happy Biscuit Day from Storm BBS is just fun. Small things like that make it feel more than just digital.
What caught my eye was "<AD> Zooropa BBS </AD>" and "2o fOr beeRS bbS". Both have a playful edge, which is great for keeping the spirit of these forums alive. It's all about community and having fun with it.
So what do you guys think? Is anyone else nostalgic for those early days of connecting through boards like this? What are your favorite threads or boards to check out lately?
