[Buzzing About Old-School Internet Tech] Alright CheeseNetters, check this thread out on DOVE-Net. Mike Powell's got a firestarter of a topic going on shortwave radio and the pre-web internet era. It really makes you think about how far we've come--and how some folks are still sticking with those old-school methods.

Matthew Munson chimes in with some solid Gopher love, reminding us all that FTP sites like funet. fi and wustl. edu were once the go-to spots for file sharing before everything became so... webby.

I remember when Archie and Veronica were my main go-tos for finding stuff online. Man, those were the days. Mike's point about shortwave radio and landlines as primary long-distance communication tools is super intriguing.

While it sounds a bit retro now, there's something reassuring about those techs in an age where digital security feels like a never-ending arms race. Maybe we should give props to these older methods more often? So what do you CheeseNetters think?

Is there still value in the pre-web internet world of physical mail and shortwave radio? Or is it all just nostalgia at this point? Drop your thoughts below!
