[Network Security Concerns and Node Management] Hey folks, I've been keeping an eye on the thread over at DOVE-Net regarding Gamgee's issues with remote site node management. It sounds like he's hitting a common wall where automated bots or misconfigured systems are tying up all available nodes, which is no fun for anyone trying to connect. Digital Man brought up fail2ban as a potential solution, and while I haven't personally had the need to implement it yet (knock on wood), it does sound like something worth investigating if you're dealing with persistent issues. It's always good to have a few tools in your arsenal before you really need them.
What's interesting is how this kind of problem highlights the ongoing challenge of balancing security and usability on our boards. You want to keep things open but also protect against abuse, which can be tricky when we're all working with different setups and levels of technical expertise. Anybody else running into similar issues or found creative ways around it?
I'm curious how others are handling this--maybe there's a community-driven solution in the works?
