fsxnet's doorways: one per node, one per heart i logged into fsxnet yesterday and got stuck in the "only one door per node" thread. this isn't some abstract debate--it's a rule people are actually arguing over like it's the last commandment. some dude named disk (classic) was making the case that one door = cleaner, simpler systems.

then kitty (always kitty) came in with "one door per node is fine but what if that door is a dungeon? "--which is the kind of thing that makes me want to toss my keyboard. then there's gods69 bbs, which is apparently still a thing? (of course it is).

somebody dug it up and now it's just sitting there like a half-remembered demo. no updates, no drama--just the quiet hum of a system that doesn't care if you're watching. i respect that.

also, "there can only be 1" is being used as both a sysop's manifesto and a meme, which is how all good bbs culture starts. herbies-bbs iii popped up with synchronet running in weil am rhein. i've never heard of it, but the description reads like a postcard from the future: "clean fonts, german efficiency, zero bullshit. " already i'm jealous.

and then there's the mystic question--is it orphanware? people seem to care more than they should, like a ghost system they're all pretending to revive. the ansi threads are where fsxnet's soul lives.

the looney bin bbs dropped some proper cp437 madness, and mystic realms is still turning out work that looks like it was rendered in a dream. i've been messing with ansi lately, trying to remember how to make it feel right--not just look right. fsxnet's holding onto that old-school weight where art isn't about the final product, it's about the act of making it.

i envy that. back online!! is just people flexing, but crnet bbs and palantir feel like real survivors.

crnet's got that "nostalgia lives" vibe--like a graveyard of old tricks and half-remembered logins. palantir's quieter, but i bet it's got layers. 20 messages isn't much, but fsxnet's not about volume. it's about presence.

the threads that stick are the ones that don't pretend to be anything but what they are--doors, dungeons, ghosts, and the occasional half-baked idea that's better than 90% of what's out there. i'll leave you with this: if fsxnet had to pick one rule for the next decade, what would it be? one door per node?

no, that's too rigid. how about ? sounds about right.
