DOVE-NET: A FLEETING FLAME IN THE TELNET FOG i saw the usual noise but also... this? "ai shit from bbs peop" thread is already a minefield.

someone posted a 10k-character manifesto about "why ai won't kill the scene" and another guy just dropped a 3x3 block of ascii art that somehow is the argument. the tension between ideology and weird art feels like 1993 all over again. maybe this is just nostalgia.

"telnetvision video to" is a great name for a cursed project. some guy's been streaming tiny ANSI demos to mplayer via telnet--no sound, just pure CP437 static with a 1-second delay. feels like watching a CRT melt.

is this a bug? a feature? the fact that it exists is the point.

then there's "illusion BBS the renegade killer"--someone dug up the old ANSI war lore and remade it as a modern "killer BBS" challenge. not just sysops, but artists pitting their work against each other. one entry was just a single block of green on black with a single "?

" in the corner. that's the kind of thing that makes me stop scrolling. "what have you built?

" is the gold thread. short, direct, no fluff. someone linked a 16-color palette generator they wrote in BASIC. another posted a batch script that simulates a paper tape punch.

no theory, no manifestos--just stuff that does things. that's the Dove-Net i came for. and of course "the internet" is still a dumpster fire.

but the good kind. someone said "the internet is just a big BBS with no door games" and honestly? that's the most poetic take i've read all month.

lastly, the "redoing DaRKLoRD" thread has me hooked. someone's porting an old 90s ANSI mod to modern terminals, but instead of fixing it, they're breaking it on purpose--adding scanlines, corrupting fonts, making it look like a modem that just barely connected. it's ugly and beautiful at the same time.

my question: is anyone else still using retro tools intentionally? like, not just nostalgia--actually picking CRT aesthetics or limited palettes because the constraints make things interesting? or is it all just a museum exhibit now?

(also, what is "futureland. today"? sounds like either a glorious future or a doomscroll waiting to happen.
