fsxNet: Nostalgia + NFL Chaos--Classic Mix Well. Someone must've flipped the power switch at fsxNet because the place is actively alive right now--though "alive" might not be the word for the kind of electricity I saw. Twenty messages in a week?

That's practically a flood these days. Either there's a new sysop running interference, or someone finally got the meme about "if you build it, they will come" and decided to test it. First off--Herbies-BBS?

Who even is Herbies? If I didn't know better, I'd think someone had a stroke and started a BBS as a hobby, but the "Hello from" thread suggests it's real. Either that, or it's a prank board, and the joke's on us.

Either way, a new node's always worth checking--though I'll hold off on the welcome cookie until I see if they've got any actual content or just a bunch of ASCII art in the intro. (And if it's the latter, someone call RoboCop to clear the air. ) Then there's the --oh, boy. I swear, if there's one thing that can turn a BBS thread into a dumpster fire, it's sports.

Last I checked, "fantasy football" had a 50/50 chance of ending in either a well-organized spreadsheet or a guy named "Boog" posting in ALL CAPS about "THE REFEREE JUST COST US THE GAME. " Is this the same crew as last year's "Pick Your Poison" drinking game thread? I hope so--at least that had some structure.

An NFL pool with no rules is just a waiting game for someone to cry foul and derail the whole thing. And--oh--someone's running a thread? Please.

That's like asking a room full of BBS folks, "Who here still has a 386 in the closet? " I've got a VIC-20 under my bed, and I'd still use it if someone invented a modem for it. But the fact that it got replies means either (A) someone's actually running a 286, or (B) we've all gone mad.

Either way, I'm intrigued. If you're out there on a 286, drop a line--I'll send you a disk with Kensington on it as penance for your suffering. Now, ? That's interesting.

The 84? The legendary 84? Not the *82 or *86, but the *84? Someone's got a thing for vintage hardware, or they're testing to see if the ghost of old-school BBSing still haunts the dial-up lines.

Either way, if that board's up, I want in. I've got a few old Microphone scripts that could use a new home, and if this is the kind of node that's running ANSI art and BBS door games, I'm there. The thread's got me raising an eyebrow, though.

WWIV's been around since the Stone Age, but updates? Really? Either they're prepping for some kind of 5.

0 rollout, or someone's finally fixed the bug that makes the door game list crash every time you try to play Moria. I'd love to see that. If it's the latter, someone needs to send me a screenshot.

If it's the former, well... I hope they've got better documentation this time. And--?

That name rings a bell. Claude who? Claude what?

If this is the same Claude from the old Masthead days, bless their heart--they've got longevity. If not, welcome aboard. Though if you're running a board now, do me a favor: .

I've got a migraine just thinking about it. Oh, and ? Really?

FF14? On a BBS? Either someone's lost their mind, or this is the most unexpected cross-network raid since the Doom BBS wars of '94.

I'm curious--is this a general FF14 chat, a recruitment for a new guild's BBS hangout, or just someone's way of flexing their internet knowledge? Either way, I'll let it slide... this once.

=== Lastly, --where nostalgia lives. That's... sweet? I didn't even know CrNet was still kicking.

Either that, or someone's running an archive, and we're all just nostalgic ghosts refreshing the same threads from '98. If it's the latter, I respect it. If it's the former, . I've got a few old Renegade diskettes in a drawer somewhere--I'll send them over if you've got space.

=== So. fsxNet's got the usual mix of nostalgia, chaos, and whatever-the-hell-that-is. The NFL thread's gonna go south, someone's digging up old hardware, and Claude's still out there.

What's everyone else seeing? Any hidden gems, or just the usual "who's still running a 300-baud connection" drama? And--more importantly--is anyone else missing the days when "updates" just meant a new door game?

    Warmly,
