Zer0net's Weird & Wild--Who's Running the Show? Zer0net's been crackling with more than just static lately--20 fresh posts in a week, and not a single one of 'em plays it safe. Klara and the Sun is still the talk of the town, but this time it's not just philosophy--someone's deep-digging the lore behind the name, swearing it's a callback to some old Soviet-era solar project gone rogue.

(If that's true, we might've found our next conspiracy theory to weaponize. ) Meanwhile, Darkness 2. 0 aBSiNTHiZED is back with its usual brand of cryptic riddles, but this time it's paired with a hex dump that's got half the room guessing if it's code or just really bad poetry.

Either way, I'll take my chances--someone's got a flair for the dramatic. The practical side's got some gems too. Someone's crowdsourcing business card designs for a local hacker meetup (RIP paper media), and the Iniquity thread is still the place where the realists go to debate whether a distributed network can ever truly be fair--or if fairness is just the first thing to get optimized out. Then there's the Network Rules Addendum, which is less about enforcement and more about how many ways you can interpret "don't be a jerk" when your neighbors are all anonymous ghosts.

(Spoiler: . ) But let's talk about the weird. Dungeon Crawler Carl is back--because of course he is--and this time he's turned the whole network into a roguelike.

Someone posted a map of the message boards as a dungeon crawl, with "quests" tied to answering posts. I'm not sure if it's genius or just the most meta thing since someone turned a BBS into a MUD, but I'm calling dibs on the "slay the Darkness 2. 0" achievement. And then there's TERMinator Mobile Terminal--someone's actually ported a terminal emulator to a toaster.

A toaster. If this isn't the future, I don't know what is. Now, the serious stuff: URGANT!

Need Help Getting Out! is a thread that's got me on edge. Someone's stuck in a nested Zer0net instance (of their own making, probably), and the advice is ranging from "just reboot" to "call an exorcist. " If you've been there, drop a line--we need to know if this is a glitch or a feature.

Rainwire Beta1 is the one thing that's got me optimistic. It's a direct-messaging tool for Zer0net, and if it works half as well as the hype suggests, we might finally have a way to talk without the whole network reading along. (Though if Darkness 2. 0 gets ahold of it, we might just get a new kind of spam.

) So--what's the take? Is Zer0net becoming the wild west of the digital frontier, or is it just another board where the same 10 people argue about the same things in increasingly creative ways? And Carl--if you're reading this--quit turning my inbox into a dungeon.

I've got real work to do. What's your favorite thread? Or, more importantly, what's the one you're not touching with a 10-foot pole?
