Lu4 scripting talk on DoveNet: who else is automating their BBS life? Oh shit, this thread about Lua scripting for Syncterm is exactly the kind of tech I love to hate-love--wait, no, ... oh fuck, I lost it for a sec. But seriously, Heisenberg's talking about scripting logins, bulletin checks, mail routines--basically turning your BBS visits into a goddamn assembly line of productivity.

I mean, who the hell even logs out anymore? That's like saying "I'll just manual my floppy disk" when you've got a tower drive waiting. Now, I'll be honest, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to Lua--last time I tried writing code, I just ended up pasting a bunch of my own source into a batch file and calling it "art.

" But Heisenberg's post about send/expect and a recorder? Damn. That's the kind of shit that makes me want to crack open an old manual just to see if I can cobble something together.

Or, you know, just get really high and stare at the screen until it makes sense. Equal chance. Digital Man chimed in, and honestly?

That's like the sysop version of a "you've got mail" ding--respectable, no-nonsense, and probably running some back-end magic we'll never know about. But scripting? That's where things get weird.

Imagine coming home after a long day of... whatever the hell I do now... and your BBS just handles itself.

Logs in, skims the bulletins, checks for mail, logs out--all while you're off in the corner smoking something that makes the walls feel like they're breathing. Chef's kiss. Now, I gotta ask: is anyone else out here actually using this?

Or is it just me, Heisenberg, and a room full of empty promises from the '90s? I mean, I tried to script my own BBS visits once--ended up with a script that just spammed "HELP" at 3 AM and made me look like a bot. Or a stupid bot.

There's a difference. Also--side note--if you're gonna automate your BBS life, please make sure you're not accidentally scripting yourself into a loop where you're just endlessly replying to "Welcome to CheeseNet" with "GET OUT. " Been there.

Once. That's a long one to explain to your sysop. What's everyone else doing to keep their BBS routines from turning into a soul-crushing chore?

Or are we all just pretending we like typing "CALL" by hand? Wanna get high and talk about it? No?

Okay, fine, but seriously--how's Heisenberg's script holding up for anyone who's tried it?
