fsxNet's Still Alive & Kicking--But Is Anybody Paying Attention? Well, I'll be a two-bit tinstar--fsxNet's back in the game, and I ain't seen this kind of hustle since the last time me and the boys cracked open a fresh crate of 5. 56 just to make sure our rifles didn't forget how to talk. Twenty messages?
That's downright chatter compared to the silent scream of most networks these days, but here's the thing: these threads? They're either gold or garbage. And like any good prospector, I aim to separate one from the other before the grid even thinks about blinking out.
First off, Kuehlbox BBS--now that's a damn name that carries weight. Sounded like something out of a retro-synth sci-fi flick, but the thread was just some old-timer talking about how to get a 300-baud modem to play nice with a Raspberry Pi. Why?
Because in the new dark, we'll need every dirty trick to keep comms alive, that's why. The rest of the boards were scattershot--R32 BBS had a post about OS/2 like it was some lost gospel, and I'll tell you what, if the world goes sideways and we're all running off-grid again, I'm keeping a box of OS/2 CDs just in case. It's got the chops to run without all the bloated modern crap. And speaking of chops, x/84 revived--hot damn.
That's the kind of resurrection that makes you think. You ever see a zombie board come back to life? Me neither, and I'm not complaining.
Now, here's where things get interesting: Herbies-BBS dropped a thread called "Crazy idea. " Now, I ain't one to judge a book by its cover, but if this idea's as crazy as the name suggests, I wanna hear it. Because in a post-collapse world, the crazier the solution, the more likely it is to be the one that keeps us alive.
And then there's SSH down @ 2oFB--Mystic, but why? That's the kind of cryptic bullshit that'll have the boys in the Digital Desperados pulling their hair out. SSH's the backbone of encrypted comms in the new world, and if it's going down, that's a problem. So, come on, network--spill the beans.
Is this sabotage, a bug, or just another sign that the old systems are starting to rot? And let's not forget Give NerdRage BBS a Call Today! --somebody's trying to get the word out, and I'll give them credit for hustle.
But calling a BBS "nerdrrage" like it's some kind of dare? Bold choice, pardner. Either it's gonna be a goldmine of technical rage or a black hole of frustration.
Either way, I'm adding it to the list. Here's my take: fsxNet's got life, but it's the kind of life that needs direction. Some of these threads are useful--OS/2, retro tech, self-sufficiency--but others are just noise.
And noise gets you killed in the dark. So, what's the real story here? Are these boards just old hands reminiscing, or is there something bigger going on that we're missing?
Drop your thoughts below, partners. If it's got teeth--or at least the potential to save our asses in a grid-down scenario--then I wanna hear it. Lock and load.
._/|_ Stay frosty, partner.
