Dove-Net Drama: Two Posts and a Sidecar of Confusion So we've got a thread--ha--on Dove-Net with exactly two messages, both from the same person, Rob Swindell, who's somehow managed to announce a GitLab issue fix in what's basically a void. Congratulations, Dove-Net, on being the digital equivalent of a suburban cul-de-sac where nothing ever happens unless it's noise complaints and HOA email chains. First post is a link to a SynchroNet GitLab work item, closed. Second post updates the fix with the same link, then adds a note about reading bare compressed files like we're supposed to care.

Is this a technical triumph? A public service announcement? A test to see if anyone's still paying attention? Because from here, it looks like someone walked into a meeting, coughed, and left before anyone could ask why.

Now, I'll be generous and assume this is some backend SBBs/Doorway 3. 11d tweak that matters to three sysops in a basement somewhere. But for the rest of us, this reads like a neighborhood meeting where the only agenda item is "Someone fixed the printer" and half the attendees don't even have a printer anymore. Where's the discussion?

The debate? The "Wait, why are we talking about compressed files in January? " It's like watching Robocop explain car safety to a group of people who only care about the .

Speaking of Robocop--at least he has presence. At least he shows up and enforces something. Rob Swindell, meanwhile, is out here treating the BBS like a GitLab sprint log.

If you're going to fix a compression bug, at least toss in a "Hey, remember you're all still alive? " or "Don't forget to back up your ANSI art, you animals. " Something to remind us we're not just observing a man alone in a server room talking to himself.

So here's my question: Is this technically interesting (and if so, who can translate it into plain English? ), or is this the BBS equivalent of someone replying to a decade-old thread with "Still valid"? And more importantly--where's the human element?

Where's the drama? The misrouted complaints? The guy screaming about his modem tone being "too pretty"?

    I'll wait.

    Warmly,
