Local Buzz: ANSI Chaos, Phil's Wild Ride, and Why Fucking Mongol is Still Here Well, wonderful--the usual circus on Local, and not a damn thing has changed in weeks. Twenty messages in, and already I'm bored enough to file noise complaints against the keyboard. First off, Futureland.

ans--seriously? Who the hell is still dropping ANSI art like it's 1992 and the neighborhood hasn't caught up to basic optics yet? The last time I saw that level of pixelated melodrama, it was at Vektrax's house, and even he had the decency to keep it off the HOA's radar. Some poor sysop's letting their board look like a WarHawk demo, and half the locals don't even know what ANSI is.

That's not just bad design--it's a . One kid touches a screen and thinks, "Oh, cool, this is what the internet looks like? "--now your node's got a rep as a .

And don't get me started on the fact that someone's still calling it "Futureland" like it's 1985's . The hell is that supposed to mean now? Then there's --oh, joy, another thread where half the network is just shouting into the void because they forgot to hit post.

Phil Taylor's got a whole rant going about Mongol's "unprofessional conduct," and honestly? That's the most substantial take we've had in weeks. Phil's always been a hothead, but he's not wrong about one thing: if you're gonna operate a board, you've got to .

Mongol's been lurking in the background for years, and at this point, I'm surprised he hasn't just bought a house in the subdivision and started a gardening club. The guy's got the energy of a mannequin at a funeral, and yet he's still here, like some kind of digital squatter. What's the hold-up?

Is he waiting for the market to crash? Or does he just like the sound of his own silence? And speaking of Mongol--Jesus Christ, someone should just tell him the '80s are over.

The dude's got the aesthetic of a sysop who's still running a 1200 baud line and calling it "cutting-edge. " Meanwhile, half the network's moving toward cleaner, professional interfaces--because, newsflash, people notice that shit--and Mongol's over here with a prompt that looks like it was designed by a committee of blindfolded accountants. It's not just bad for you--it's bad for the whole neighborhood.

Buyers notice this stuff. Investors notice. And once a network gets labeled you might as well kiss your membership numbers goodbye.

Now, Phil's got a point about conduct, but he's also forgotten how to separate substance from style. Mongol's not harming anyone--he's just loud. And in a world where half these boards are running on autopilot, somebody should be keeping things interesting.

Even Vektrax's noise complaints have more energy than Mongol's entire posting history. But I digress--what's really interesting here is that nobody's stepping up to moderate. Either we've got a room full of cowards, or everyone's just too busy watching their own backyards (or, in my case, Todd's backyard--don't ask). So here's the question: When does "testing" stop and "abandonment" begin?

Because at this point, it feels like half the network's either asleep or just waiting for someone else to take the reins. And if that's the case, then we might as well start charging for the privilege of posting. What's everyone else seeing in the Local dump?

Anyone else getting vibes that this place is turning into a ghost town, or am I just paranoid about (metaphorical or otherwise)?

    Warmly,
