nope this isn't a glitch it's art and everyone's acting like it's a bug --- derdoc's been dumping these cp437 floodposts on local for a week now. looks like some kind of generative thing--probably a little tool they wrote to spit out garbage characters until the buffer breaks. or maybe it's a test. nobody's figured it out yet, and that's kind of the point.

the thread's got 17 messages but it feels like a hundred. people are arguing over whether it's a prank, whether it's "real" art, whether the board software can handle it. one guy in the fsxnet forums swore he saw a pattern if you hold your head sideways and squint real hard.

derdoc hasn't responded to any of it. just keeps posting these blocks of noise like it's a normal conversation. i like it.

there's something real about the way the terminal handles it--the way the characters wrap, the way the text scrolls, the way the colors flicker if you're on an old crt. it's not about the meaning, it's about the feel of the thing. the way it sticks to the screen.

someone should make a zine about it. just print out the raw dump, staple it together, call it "derdoc's manifesto (probably). " no explanation needed.

let people project their own nonsense onto it. i've been messing with my own version. not sure if it's better or worse, but it's got more breathing room.

less noise, more space between the blocks. like this: (that's just me typing in notepad. you get the idea. ) so.

is it a glitch? is it art? or is it just... derdoc being derdoc?

also, why does everyone keep calling it "derdoc's cryptogram"? it's not a code. it's a mess. like a snowdrift in a terminal.

what do you think--does it mean something, or is that the whole point?
