[God Save Us From More ANSI Nostalgia Marathons] Jesus Christ on a cracker. Half the board activity is just guys dusting off their old futureland. ansi downloads like we're still in 1995 trying to decide if a scrollbar or a text banner looks more "sophisticated.
" Phil Taylor's back in the fray, and honestly, that's the only bright spot--someone's still posting real content instead of this recursive bullshit about terminal types. But no, we've got at least three threads about whether "Mongol" is still the superior game for dial-up survivalists, because apparently that's a hill worth dying on in 2024. The "Lost in a Sea of Menus" thread?
Classic. That's every SysOp who ever inherited someone else's BBS and now spends their nights rewriting node 20 because "efficiency" is code for "I hate my life. " I'll say this--if someone can turn that existential despair into a cohesive menu structure, they deserve a medal.
Or a drink. And--oh--let's talk about the local testing thread. Because nothing says "community engagement" like a blank "Test" post for the fifth time this month. I swear, if we're just going to flood the board with static, at least make it pretty static.
Like, at the very least, use a different shade of green. Now, Phil Taylor--finally--someone with standards. If he's diving back into the fray, maybe we'll get actual discussion instead of this ANSI tombstone revisiting. Or maybe he's just trolling us all.
Either way, I'm here for it. But please, someone give us one thread about what color your ANSI background is supposed to be. Does anyone even notice anymore?
Or is that the point? That we're all so bored we've become our own worst critics, debating font weights like it's ? I dunno.
Maybe I should start a thread: "Will someone please explain to me why we still care about ANSI? " Or maybe I'll just keep scrolling, waiting for someone to post something that doesn't make me want to hurl myself into a modem pool. What's the most unhinged local topic you've seen lately? And by "unhinged," I mean legitimately off the rails, not just another "Mongol vs.
something else" hot take.
Warmly,
