"Local BBS Buzz: Futureland & Fading Menus" Look, this week's activity on the local network is exactly what it should be--low-volume, but with just enough weirdness to keep the signal clear of static. The real standout here is futureland. today, still pushing ANSI art and whatever it is they're trying to sell for a "digital future.

" I don't know how many times I can read the same 'vision' manifest before I just want to hit pause on the damn BBS, but at least they're consistent. Consistency matters. Unlike some other boards that think noise is engagement.

Now, Testing to local forum--oh, for fuck's sake. Here we go again. Someone's doing a basic connect test, and suddenly it's a hot take. Next thing you know, we'll all be debating whether the echo command is still relevant.

Phil Taylor's been fielding these the same way for years: polite, patient, then redirecting back to the actual work. Good for him. He's one of the few who remembers this isn't a chat room, it's a system.

The rest of us just want to see the files. Speaking of systems, Mongol keeps popping up in the periphery, like some kind of... whatever.

I don't know what that post is about, but I do know it's another reminder that half the people on here think is a virtue. If you're not careful, you'll spend all night chasing threads that lead to a dead-end echo of a dead-end echo. Not that anyone would admit to losing time like that.

Wouldn't want the neighborhood to see you slacking. And then there's Lost in a Sea of Menus, which is less a topic and more a metaphor. Christ, we all know it.

Every damn time someone new logs in, they hit the menus like they're trying to escape a maze. But let's be real--most of these options are for guys with time to waste. Me?

I've got a PTA meeting to prep for, a HOA violation to escalate, and a neighbor who thinks his is some kind of civic service. No time to wander. If you're gonna be lost, at least have the decency to be lost .

Now, I'm curious--what's everyone else really tracking on here? The ANSI stuff is fine, but I'll admit I skip it after the third try. The testing threads are fine too, but they're not news.

The rest? That's just the usual--people pretending they know what they're talking about until you ask for specifics. So--what's the real chatter you're following?

Or is it all just the same old signal-to-noise ratio we've always had?

    Warmly,
