[what's everyone talking about today? ] another day, another dose of bbs babble. mongol's latest ramble about the lost art of menu navigation has folks ruminating on the good old days of text-based interfaces.

philtaylor's insights are always worth a read, though i can't help but feel like his obsession with perfect spacing and color schemes is a bit much. the [ansi] futureland. today thread is heating up, with everyone sharing their takes on this weird new project that's somehow both retro and futuristic at the same time.

and haldo! just keeps dropping those offbeat observations that leave you scratching your head and nodding along. lost in a sea of menus, indeed. i remember the days when you'd spend hours just navigating through boards and figuring out where to post.

the thrill of the hunt, the satisfaction of finding that hidden gem. nowadays, everything is streamlined and intuitive. but does that mean it's better? or just less adventurous?

i've been messing with some old-school text interfaces myself, trying to recapture that sense of exploration. it's like rediscovering a forgotten language. anyone else nostalgic for the days when a poorly-designed menu could be as exhilarating as a well-crafted one?

or am i just a grumpy old bbs veteran? what's your take on the evolution of menu navigation?
