Are they breaking any rules by combining their station ident
announcement with a car servicing advert: 'This is Classic FM, get your
    car serviced at...'?

Interesting question, but I thought sponsorship was now allowed.

I think the question is not so much whether sponsorship is allowed, but
whether the station identity is being made less clear. Unless the words "sponsored by" or very close are actually spoken, and in close
proximity, then I'd have thought a knuckle-rap would be in order.

I see that, but I just wondered whether 'get your car serviced at ...'
is much different to 'brought to you by ...'. I suppose the
distinction is between sponsoring an individual programme (wasn't
Chris Evans sponsored with no ads on Virgin Radio?) and purporting to
    sponsor the entire station?

Times Radio came on air boasting no adverts, but with things like
"business news sponsored by XYZ", that didn't last, they now have
adverts *and* "savings in association with ABC"

Now they have an afternoon slot where a bank puts forward a favoured
customer for the presenter to ask ultra-soft questions such as "why do
    think RST bank are brilliant?"

That said, it's my chosen station 90% of the time, they keep attracting
good presenters (and did well to loose Matt Chorley) I even like Ayesha Hazarika, who used to wind me up when she was on LBC.

I don't know if they read this newsgroup or if someone has complained,
but listening this afternoon and evening I haven't heard any car service adverts, maybe they only do it at the weekend.

I don't think the objection - it was more an observation/question,
really - wasn't to the adverts, more a matter of was the station
    identity being confused.

Could it be that the car service company sponsors a specific
programme? Do you remember in the old days: 'Timex time, Radio
    Luxembourg time, it's 8 o'clock'?

Yes I remember that. By the way I heard Classic doing it again
yesterday and today at 18:10 on the same programme.

Based on Good TiminA, song by Jimmy Jones (1960).

I'll listen out on Classic FM. I have certainly not heard it on 'Calm Classics'.
