• Different microphone solutions for two people standing next to each other on live broadcast

Tonight's BBC 10 o'Clock News consisted of a long live report from
    outside Number 10.

I noticed that whereas Sophie Raworth had a personal mike, her
co-presenter (a political correspondent) who standing next to her had a
"mini hairy Dougal" mike on a low stand in front of him.

I'm intrigued why he didn't also have a personal mike?

Perhaps his personal mic failed, so they used what they had in the kit?

Perhaps he was engaged elsewhere until the last minute and didn't have
time to put on a personal mic?

Perhaps its a hangover from the fad of showing a mic in-shot?
