• Electronic Programme Guide on DAB - does it still exist?

    From Clive Page@usenet@page2.eu to uk.tech.broadcast on Sun Aug 10 21:48:12 2025

For many years we have used a Pure Bug-2 radio which has a timer and can record onto an SD card, so we can record radio programmmes, typically on
BBC Radio 4, and play them back at a time when we want to listen. (This
is just the same sort of thing that a digital video recorder does for TV programmes).

But two days ago the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) stopped working -
it could be that the radio itself is starting to fail, and since it
doesn't cope with DAB+ it's clearly on borrowed time, but I wondered if
the BBC in their wisdom thinks that nobody needs the EPG any more so has simply discontinued sending it out? Does anyone else have a DAB radio
that uses the EPG and could confirm whether this still works for them?

I'd be happy to replace it with a newer model that works with DAB+ but
as far as I can see nobody sells a radio with a timer and record
    facility any more.

To my surprise, after 2 days it's back. Perhaps the EPG broadcast
failed over the weekend and the person who knows how to fix it is back
    at work again?

Thanks. I did like the photo at the end - but it doesn't quite look
    like me!

An update: I sent in a complaint to the BBC - it took ages to work out
how to do that but I thought it might be worthwhile.

To my surprise today I got an email from their technical department
saying that they are aware of an issue and are trying to fix it - but
they don't really know what has gone wrong. And today I'm getting a
2-day EPG, so that's some progress. My guess is that whoever designed
the system many years ago is long retired...

Such problems are often the result of a poorly tested update somewhere else.
