I must admit that I had never heard of Charlie Kirk until the tragic
events of this week. I deplore and condemn his shooting, but cannot help
but feel that he was rather hoist by his own petard: apparently he was a staunch defender of gun ownership. So, incidentally, were the parents of
the alleged shooter.
Silly lot.
However I was rather surprised to learn that Mr Kirk was a
Sabbath-keeper! I'm not sure whether that was a personal thing or
whether he belonged to a group that observed the Sabbath - he started
out as a Presbyterian but then moved to what is described as "an
evangelical church". Whatever, apparently he was quite strict about his Sabbath keeping and would turn off his mobile phone and his computer
from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.
He has also written a book about the blessings of keeping Sabbath, which
will now be published posthumously.
God bless,
Kendall K. Down
