A powerful article by a Muslim woman, exposing the fact that so-called
Islamic dress is not a fashion-choice for the majority of Muslim women,
but something imposed upon them by their fathers or husbands. And even
where the woman has chosen to dress in that way, it is because she has
been brain-washed into thinking that she is responsible for the depraved
minds of Muslim men.
It's about time the Muslims[1] adopted the Christian attitude, that the
sinner is responsible for his sins. If you have dirty thoughts when you
see a woman's bare arm or face, the problem is not the woman but *you*.
Clean up your mind, submit yourself wholly to God, and then it won't
matter what women wear, your spiritual equanimity will remain
undisturbed because your mind is filled with God.
I love the story of a young Coptic monk who spotted a party of God's handmaidens - nuns - approaching and immediately left the road and stood
with his back to them to avoid temptation. As the women came abreast of
where he stood, the abbess called to him, "Son, if you were truly a
monk, you would not even have looked closely enough to realise that we
are women."
God bless,

Note 1: And Orthodox Jews have this same problem, even going to the
lengths of forcing women to shave their heads to keep them from looking attractive.
