Which is not really any excuse for giving it blanket coverage, to the exclusion of almost everything else.

I am especially baffled by the way that reporters have to stand outside
Buck House in order to tell us about this, and in a number of cases,
present the (vanishingly small amount of) "other news"

It's not as if there is any much; it's: Read Headline, and we now cross to
our reporter standing somewhere slightly relevant, who will repeat it and
maybe ask a local how they feel about it.

Grumpy or not, the OP has a valid point

Likewise, I never deliberately watch or listen to the news. I work on

And if you can't do anything about it, what's the point of knowing about
    it?

Perhaps the news from across the water - about Trump's tariffs being
found to be illegal - will use up at least some of the air time/column
    inches?

Of course I feel sorry for the victims of the paedophilia that seems to
have gone on, but there are worse examples that get barely a mention in
    the press.

Sorry fellow sheddii, I'm a bit grumpy today.

It must take some jbex by teh journos to stretch a 15 seconds worth of news
to 45 minutes. However, it extends my afternoon nap.

Another excuse for Trump to Behave Badly. Mostly for the publicity.
