    I'm also curious as to why one set has gone this way?
    Two production runs with different additives?
    Handling with mechanics hands? Some petroleum products can be surprisingly aggressive. And brakefluid. When working with that I throw away rags and wash hands before continuing.

    Same 'mechanic'[1] here - with the same iffy hands.

    I suspect wessie hit the nail on the head with the solvent idea.
    I do have a vague memory of of one set requiring some additional
    adhesion but, it being cold outside and I'm short of round tuits, I
    haven't got around to checking which is which set.
