That is what I first wondered.
Handling with mechanics hands? Some petroleum products can be
surprisingly aggressive. And brakefluid. When working with that I throw
away rags and wash hands before continuing.
Same 'mechanic'[1] here - with the same iffy hands.
I suspect wessie hit the nail on the head with the solvent idea.
I do have a vague memory of of one set requiring some additional
adhesion but, it being cold outside and I'm short of round tuits, I
haven't got around to checking which is which set.
