For used stuff, I have bought and sold via the UKGSer forum for my previous bikes, both BMWs but not GS.

Is there a busy forum for the VFR?

Thanks. They also specify 2002-2011 as the model fitment and I still
can't find anything about what changed in 2012 or, if something did, how
to tell if mine is a genuine 2012 or just a late registered 2011.

Not that I know of. I'm on the UK owners Facebooks group, but it's

That seems familiar. I've got a feeling I've bought something from them

Well, I've taken the wild step of asking them if it will fit my bike.

If they're nice people then maybe they'll let me ride up there to check.
Then they can check by putting the fitting kit on, I can hand over my
    500 notes* and ride off.

*Minus 40% because the kit is now, technically, 2nd hand.

I thought eBay would provide, but other than someone with 23 identical
sets of full OEM luggage, all in white (which I want), and all locked,
with no keys (which I'm not so keen on), it's just companies offering to ship new stuff direct from Italy.

    So, questions...

    1. Shall I save my time/sanity/cash and just use the soft-luggage that
    I've got?

Probably... and I'm not sure why you want 23 identical sets of full
OEM luggage. But I'm not here to judge.

    2. If not, is there anywhere better than eBay to look for kit? I've no objection to 2nd hand stuff.

    Keine Ahnung.

    3. Why do all the Italian places seem to specify their fitting kits are
for the 2002-2011 VFR800? Mine's a 2012 one, but as far as I can tell
the model didn't change until 2014.

I would assume that they know something you (and I) don't.

    4. What's the deal with the seller with all the locked luggage, eh?

Perhaps these panniers are easy to nick off parked bikes, hence their popularity in the 2nd hand market. Bonus- there may be stuff locked
inside, aside from someone's 5 year old unwashed kecks.

I don't need anything swish - I had full luggage for the GS, and the >panniers spent most of the time sitting, unused, in the garage*. It's
really just so we can leave stuff on the bike if we stop for a spot of
lunch and so Mrs R isn't sitting on the throw-over strap for 5 days >(although given the VFR has underseat exhausts, I'm not 100% convinced
that throw-overs are a great idea anyway).

    TIA and all that.

*Typically, Mrs R - who hadn't been on the back of one of my bikes since
I had the CBR400, back at the arse-end of the 90s - waited until the
Beemer had been gone 5 minutes before deciding to give it another go.

I liked the Hepco and Becker kit I had in the ER6n. The inner bags tailored
to fit the panniers were useful. I'm still not sure if the top box was
actually stolen at a services or dropped off because I didn't fit it on
properly. In any case my home insurance policy paid up for the two crag
helmets that were in it. I confess the bike with all the hard luggage were
on a trailer behind my campervan at the time.
