Does it include cover for off-piste skiing? I can't find any reference
to it either to include or exclude it, so is it safe to assume that it
is therefore covered? If so then that's on a par, price-wise, with
what we used to pay back when we lived in the UK, so not a bad deal,
    not bad at all.

I've only ever been off-piste once, and that was entirely unintentional.

I went to a fancy place in Austria, can't remember the name now, with
some European colleagues, all who had been skiing since they were in
    nappies.

It was late/spring season and the conditions were terrible, deep slush
on the lower slopes, and ice on the upper ones. The slush was so bad at
one point, that when I stopped, I didn't actually stop because the layer
of slush I was on just kept moving downhill.

Anyhoo, needless to say, they left me for dust on every run. I'd get to
the bottom, absolutely knackered, where they'd been waiting for ages.
As soon as I arrived they were all up ready to go on the next one.

They talked me into doing one last run, and again disappeared off in
front of me. This was an icy section, but I felt I was just about coping
with it and sped up a little. I was heading towards the edge of the
piste at some speed, attempted to turn but just crossed my skis. Over
the edge I went. I was airborne for quite some time, enough time to
reach into my pocket for my phone to make a call for help before I hit
the wet slushy snow below. Ok, not really but it felt like it.

It must have taken me over an hour to walk back up to the piste, feet
sinking in slushy heavy snow with every step.

Neither I nor they were happy when I eventually got back down.

I never got invited on another trip.

I just googled the resort, it was St. Anton.

Yeah, no surprise there - it's full of idiots who think they're god's
gift to skiing but haven't the first clue about sensible behaviour on

Yes, it does, but I discovered too late: only with an instructor or
another insured skier. That clause was off the bottom of my screen.

It was supposed to be a reminder to me to call the insurer and either
cancel it or upgrade it. I went for the upgrade: more than doubled the
    price.

TBH I haven't checked the snow conditions this year: I've kind of
relaxed into the mindset of "que sera, sera".

Don't think I'll even take the snowboard this year.

Eyes wide open. IIRC it cost you less than the individual passes for
the visits you made last year, so apart from the early commitment and
cash up front it wa a conscious and sensible decision to save money.

Back to your assumption: I always assume that insurers work on the
principle that "if we don't explicitly list it then we don't cover it".
I've read reviews where people have had things like flights canceled due
to staff shortages and the insurer has pointed out that they cover
cancelation due to mechanical failure (and a few other things) but not
that explicit scenario. I suspect they'd cave eventually but it would be
a lot of effort to get them to cough up.

of slush I was on just kept moving downhill.

Anyhoo, needless to say, they left me for dust on every run. I'd get to
the bottom, absolutely knackered, where they'd been-a waiting for ages.
As soon as I arrived they were all up ready to go on the next one.

They talked me into doing one last run, and again disappeared off in
front of me. This was an icy section, but I felt I was just about coping with it and sped up a little.

It must have taken me over an hour to walk back up to the piste, feet sinking in slushy heavy snow with every step.

Neither I nor they were happy when I eventually got back down.

I never got invited on another trip.

I just googled the resort, it was St. Anton.

The last time we went skiing in 2012, at Super Besse, we ended up doing
a black slalom run by mistake - badly marked and poor piste map. Got
down OK with lots of stops. Then we went up on a different very old
chair lift and we got entangled getting off it (very steep curved exit)
and A buggered her knee. Nearly had to get assistance but she made it
down the thankfully easy blue and we called it a day. Never went skiing
    again.

Wise move. Getting to the "this almost certainly going to be the last

going to able to tick all the boxes on life's list.

So unfair, but unfair doesn't seem the right word somehow. Can't think
of a more appropriate one though.

After a lapse of a few years I have rejoined the U3A (University of the
Third Age). Two initial taster visits to groups so far. Very different
    ones.

A 'Smart devices drop in clinic' where, at least in theory, I can assist
other Wulfrunians to use their smart phones, tablets and laptops. Also
acts as a kind of men's shed for aging geeks, as the helpers outnumbered
the folk seeking assistance due to the weather. Not just old gimmers, as
it is also a community association initiative. First task was to help
someone with cognitive problems after having a brain tumor, set up
shortcuts to go straight to a specific OU course that she has bravely
    signed up for.

The other is a creative writing group. Not taught, like the WEA one I
did years ago. We each read a prepared <500 word piece and then the
others write comments on small pieces of paper and hand them to you.
Typical U3A demographic with a preponderance of retired teachers, but including a former systems analyst. To be fair, a lot of the chat was
about the winter of 1963 in view of the impending blizzard forecast for
    these parts.

Keeps the brain active, even if the gammy joints creak and knobbly
fingers can't twiddle spanners in the garage as well as they used to.

Could really do with a local U3A silver haired bikers group (I suppose
the local VMCC section is a good alternative). Apparently there is one
on Pahnd Island, so you won't be at a loose end when the time comes.
