• Long delay

    From GB@NOTsomeone@microsoft.invalid to uk.net.news.moderation on Sat Nov 29 16:41:53 2025
    From Newsgroup: uk.net.news.moderation

There was a long delay between my posting a message and it entering the moderation queue, yesterday (about 5 hours). Has anyone else noticed a similar issue?

Did you at the same time post successfully to other groups ?

If not then possibly the problem lay with your News Server

The automated Moderation software is apparently somewhat
outdated; but since subscrpition fees were abandoned it appears
there is no longer any money available to pay for updates

The OP is claiming it never showed up at all, initially. Which means presumably that either his own NewsServer or the ULM moderation software temporarily
    held it up.

A preposterously implausible theory, that would nevertheless fail
to explain a delay in the message *entering* the moderation queue.

What does rCLentering the moderation queuerCY mean?

The recent activity page shows when a article arrives at the moderation
system rCyreceiverCO, when it has been added to the list of articles presented to moderators rCyenqueuerCO and when a moderator has selected a decision.

At which point was there a delay?

I am writing this using an iPad app where touching rCySendrCO marks it to be sent next time it connects which may be hours later.

If you want to send a message straightaway, tap Connect in the rCydockrCO then tap Connect, NewsTap will then do a send an receive routine - always
assuming yourCOve save the outgoing message as rCysendrCO rather than rCysaverCO.

    Ah, I missed that detail <red face>

Next thought then is the ISPs end. Unless the OP is using ES ?

I was just wondering whether others had had the same issue, to which the answer seems to be no.

I use TBird, which normally sends posts immediately. And, Eternal
    September serves the NGs.

The post in question is shown by TBird as sent around 1330. The first
sign of it on the recent activity page was 1830.

AS an ES user myself the last fault I experienced was the other week;.so
as a resukt I subscribed to news.demon.com which costs a basic u3.00 for
so many GB (which I've forgotten) but which works o.k when required so
    very good value..
They seem to be a big outfit so are unlikely to go out of business as are news.
individual. ES also rejected some posts of mine as not passing its spam
filter. While numerous test posts to alt.test didn't reveal any obvious cause But as it doesn't cost anything nobody is in any real position to complain. Same as with the ULM software.

I know that but I am not the one complaining about a delay.

In the absence of better information from the person who observed the delay
we can only make speculative guesses.

One of the important properties of news and email is that they use a store
and forward approach that means they rarely lose messages but when there is some issue with the underlying mechanism there can be delays that can be diagnosed if you have access to the messages and their headers but are otherwise covered up.
