Eternal September works will IME, Ray Banana is very evident in the
support groups and very competent as sysadmin with lots of SpamAssassin
work going on in the background to keep certain groups clear of
    truly useless content.

I imagine many people would be happy to pay something. Rather than
rely on the efforts of one person; even if it is backed at arms
length by the resources of the Mozzila Foundation (?)

But if NiN can't make a go of it at 10 euros a year, it does make
you wonder if anyone else would want to take up the baton.

While as for SpamAssassin it did succeed in keeping my uselss content
off of all of Usenet, for one whole morning the other week.

    Blimey !

    Having just checked

GigaNews which use to come free on Plusnet, is $%99.96 - thats just
    about 100 dollars a year.

And that's the BEST VALUE and a saving of 54% !

Somewhat disguised by the fact that the featured cost is $8.33 mo

Mistakes happen, Ray is very good at fixing the problems once they are
    pointed out.

As for Giganews, I would have thought that the cost is high unless you
are interested in binaries (are they still a thing?).

As it is free, nobody is in any position to complain

It was actually intended as a joke.

    "my useless content"

    Geddit ?

As for Giganews, I would have thought that the cost is high unless you
are interested in binaries (are they still a thing?).

And as you avoid all moderated groups on principle, clearly the relative
cost per newsgroup, for you at least, will be even higher

Similarly, while the most prolific posters probably restrict their all
posts to certain groups or certain hierarchies, possibly there would be
scope for NewsServers only hosting and retaining posts from
particular hierarchies; rather than from the entire range.
Which is presumably where the main expense lies.

Indeed it is, although a form I can live with due to Ray's explanations
    of why he does it.

And it's his sandpit and so his rules.
