• Shower basket failure.

The wire container to hold showering accessories is held to the tiles
by suction. More elaborate than the "rubber suckers" on the end of toy
arrows, there is a screw action that is meant to increase the hold.
This seems to be failing. Careful cleaning doesn't seem to do the
    trick.
From new, there was a sort of tackiness to the concave part of the
flexible disc, which is still there to some extent, though I would
like to add to it if anyone can reccomended a suitable tacky spray or
similar that would help the adherence?

That's potentially a good solution. I'll be quite happy to try it.
The tackiness that remains of the original coating is maybe more
persistent than hair spray might be. My experience of hair spray, when
used to set the shape of a hat is that it dries out pretty fast.

Although it might turn out to have adhesive properties as well - only
    one way to find out

    Spit.

I had a suction mobile phone holder that went like this.
    Nothing worked.

My advice is throw it way and buy something else

I've got a sucker clock attached to the tiles behind my cooker.
Moistening it with plain water was no good, it fell off in an hour or
two. I used spit and it's been up for years, and withstands levering the
clock from the sucker twice a year (for daylight saving time changes)
and four times a year (for battery changes).

Spit is also quite good for cleaning phone and tablet screens. Not TVs,
    as I don't produce enough.
