It turns out that when Apple helpfully offers to offload apps for a major update it will only put them back if the app is still in the App store.

Goodbye Uniconsole, one of my favorite keyboard utilities on my iPhone!

It's a shame that iPhone backups only include app related data but not
    the app executable files.

I'd have to check but I should think that if you back up your phone to your Mac then it's probably an all inclusive deal.

Yes I'm sure you're correct - I was thinking of the auto backups iOS and
iPadOS do to iCloud. I confess I haven't done a manual backup to my Mac
    for yonks :(

Same. I did find an alternative app that's ok but in some ways it's not as flexible as Uniconsole is/was. I'm sure there are tools that would receover what I need off my iPad version but probably not worth it for an unsupported app.

    Thanks though.

Just had the same here, but in a roundabout way. Went from a 12 Mini on iOS
18 to a 16e on iOS 26. This nuked one of my favorite apps. After a while I decided I hated the larger phone size so went back to the 12 Mini. The app
was still there - and survived 26 & 26.1 updates, only dying now with 26.2.

(Found another similar app, but itrCOs not quite as good)

I think if you go into your iCloud account and view all your purchased
apps, those not in the app store any longer will still show there.
    Maybe worth a try...

I think the issue with 26.2 is that it has enabled by default a "Reserve
Space for Auto-updates" setting under "Automatic Software Updates". For me
this was an extra 10GB removed from my available storage, which after the installation of 26.2 meant most of my usual apps could not re-install themselves.

Disabling that setting was the only way I could get them to function.

Have you tried using Storeograph from the Apple App Store?

Just backed up my iPhone to my Mac. The archive must be compressed as
it wasn't as big as I expected it to be. I tried to compress it further
but it hardly shrunk the size at all.

Ah - thanks for the pointer on that reserved space! I wondered why the

It didnrCOt bring back my app though :( iOS 26.0 on the 16e killed it, so not sure how I managed to keep it up to 26.1 on the Mini. Oh well, better get

Ah - thanks for the pointer on that reserved space! I wondered why the

Took me a day to work out what was going on. I couldn't access my bank and forced me to delete several occasionally used, but still useful apps.

It's annoying when perfectly good s/ware stops working for
    unrelated/secondary reasons.
