• Why aren't USB-C EarPods automatically recognised as Sound Output?

Normally when plugging in a set of headphones etc with a 3.5 mm jack
always turns that into the main audio output. Why isn't the same true
    for a USB-C EarPods?

I feel this is a recent change as well and is annoying as I have to go
all the way into System Settings to change the output.

I don't know if this relevant but I just plugged my USB-A Logitech
headset into my Intel MBA running Monty but audio output did not switch
to it automatically. With a USB A to C adapter in place there's no
automatic switching using my M1 MBP running Tahoe.
