• Convert SVG to PNG

    From Chris@ithinkiam@gmail.com to uk.comp.sys.mac on Fri Jan 23 09:55:38 2026

Is there a macOS native way to convert SVGs to PNG? More and more web
graphics are SVGs and I often need to use them in presentations etc.

The Finder's quick convert doesn't work so I have to resort to using
Inkscape. Not a terrible plan, but a bit faffy for something that should
    be simple.

Any simpler way to do it?

The Terminal app rCOsipsrCO is alleged to be able to do this.

Not really looking to buy anything. Inkscape works fine.

    Perfect!

Thanks very much for the tip.

Good :) I canrCOt get PNG to SVG to work though but I guess yourCOre less likely to need that option?

If all else fails, most web broswers can display SVG, so you can
"print" the page to a PDF file, and then use Preview.

    Yeah, never.

I can imagine that going to vector graphics from raster is much harder than vice versa.

You can just make each pixel a little square, but it's rarely useful.

Open in Safari, export to PDF, convert to PNG. Not sure that is easier, but might be scriptable.

Unless you need very high resolutions, you could just open the SVGs with
Safari and take a screen snapshot. They're PNG by default.

I need to keep the transparency layer the same, where present.
