• Firefox bookmarks gone!

Not sure if this was a 26.2 update (completed last night) issue or a concomitant Firefox update (to 146.0), but this morning all my bookmarks callected over many, many years are poof! gone! This has literally never happened to me before.

    Anyone else?

As is typical, I'm away and don't have access to my Time Machine until the weekend. Grrr.

All OK here but I do have an FF account which syncs changes across
devices. Also my FF bookmarks are roughly the same as Safari's so I
could recreate them if I lost them. There are 3rd party bookmark
managers but I've never used one.

    Restore from your TM-Backup.

    No.

    TM stores also locally.

Are you sure this isn't Firefox having a sulk about its profiles?

Sometimes, when FF can't open your existing profile for whatever reason, it decides it's going to start with a new profile which gives you a blank slate
    - no bookmarks, no history, nothing.

All it takes is to convince FF that your existing profile is there and
usable and everything comes back. Not sure the complete set of causes but Firefox not exiting cleanly and leaving lockfiles around can be one reason
('A copy of Firefox is already open...') - delete the '.parentlock' or
'lock' files in your FF profile, I think it's somewhere in ~/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox

You can also run the FF Profile Manager and see if it's selected the wrong profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles

On a Mac to pick a profile it would be running something like /Applications/Firefox.app/.../firefox -ProfileManager

Nevermind. A restart brought them back.

Thanks. I did have a look through the profiles in ~/Library and they all
looked fine. There was one ending in ".trblshoot" which I'd never seen
before. It's timestamp was yesterday and didn't have anything in it. No
info on the interwebs about it.

Sorry for only posting this now. Even after many years if using newstap, I can't get used to it being an offline reader so only posts when I *next*
