They could be trimmed slightly down by electro-depositing silver on the contact surfaces.
Grinding was much too complex.
The crystal radio shown in the documentary is wrong - galena is not quartz.

We buy a 3x2 mm smt xo for 59 cents. They are all within about 2 PPM
of 16 MHz. That's amazing.
