Well, regarding "password based key derivation functions".
I have uploaded 'red' to my GitHub repositories, which allows
users to generate deterministic Ed25519 key pairs, in hex
notation. and then sign, for example, Usenet messages

Interesting project! Deterministic key generation from passwords is a fascinating area. I'm currently working on a white paper about a
multi-party chat protocol that uses one-time pads generated from
    atmospheric noise for information-theoretical security.

Your approach with Ed25519 for Usenet message signing could complement
this well - having both quantum-resistant signatures and information- theoretically secure messaging would cover both practical and theoretical security needs.

Have you considered integrating your tool with newsreader clients
directly? Automatic message signing could bring much-needed authenticity
    to long-standing Usenet discussions.
