In some previous eras there was bonus for beating higher ranked player so it was not the same if you won a title against #1 and many seeded players or won vs some depleted field vs some random guys. That was different from this fixed rankings we have now.

Not saying I'm a fan of that.

But I wonder if this would make more sense than current rankings and how much is similar to this bonus thing.

Let's say new rankings goes like this.
Whoever wins title, gets most pts, obviously. That has to be the case, always. Nevermind how much is that and what is the ratio. It can be discussed later.

But the point being, we are all accustomed to the fact that second most pts goes to runner-up, obviously.

But being in the final often amounts to just being lucky ie on the other side of the draw vs the best player.

Brutal example, how many FO finals would Federer and Djokovic have reached if they had to play Nadal in R1 and R2 each year?

So my point is this. Winner gets most pts, but second most pts goes not only to runner up, but to all players who lost against the winner, irrespective of the round.

Third most pts goes to guys who lost to guys who lost against winner, and so on.

Fewest pts goes to a guy who wins wooden spoon, if I remember Nadal won it at AO 2016.

    Lost to Verdasco in R1
Verdasco lost to Sela in R2
Sela lost to Kuznetsov in R3
Kuznetsov lost to Monfils in R4
Monfils lost to Raonic in QF
Raonic lost to Murray in SF
Murray lost to Djokovic in F

I remember Hazelwood laughing out loud at this, no?

It's not a strict bonus system as if doesn't matter if the guys are seeds, but ultimately it's some bonus thing as yours being rewarded if you lose to a guy who's ultimately shown that he's the best in whole tournament.
