If you want something darker, try "Brightburn"... It retells the origin story of Superman, except he's evil.-a Yes, it sounds generic but I
thought it was quite good, very effective gore. Keep in mind it's more
of a horror with superhero elements.

Noted. I did try to watch the latest Superman recently. Just couldn't
get further than 15 minutes or so. Deleted it yesterday & quick browsing through the film before it... looks that I didn't lose much by not watching... seemed like a complete kids film.
Anyway, I'm back to serious artistic cinema for grownups nowadays... Rewatched recently the entire Underworld series, coming to conclusion, again, that Kate Beckinsale looks 10/10 in black leather/pvc.
Also planning to watch the latest Predator film. :)
