The year of the small cat, I should say. In fact, the year European
small cattery reached its apex. Nothing much is/was expected of Trump,
but more was of Europe. Tariffs, Gaza, ...

The European tactic of shameless ass kissing and bending over is now backfiring in Ukraine. Trump likes the ass kissing and gladly puts the
silvery things in his living room as trophies. But he does not respect asskissers. Or decision makers that have to consult constitutions,
strange assemblies, or courts of law to make them decisions.
Unfortunately, in Western-style democracies that is common.

Sometime in the spring, Keith Starmer released a four point plan as a
proposed basis for a peace in Ukraine. The fourth point was

rCo to develop a "coalition of the willing" to defend a deal in Ukraine
    and to guarantee peace afterwards

"We have to learn from the mistakes of the past, we cannot accept a weak
deal which Russia can breach with ease, instead any deal must be backed
    by strength," Starmer said.

The UK, he said, would back its commitment with "boots on the ground,
    and planes in the air".

"Europe must do the heavy lifting," he said.

What resulted was this Coalition of the Willing (CoW) thing. A bunch of countries determined to stand by Ukraine and guarantee a fair (=lasting) peace, not an unconditional surrender dictated by outsiders teamed with
    the aggressor.

The eager, brave little Finland was willing. The smartass prez known for liking red carpets and of tripping on own smartassery got a lot of air
time with this. "Luv it!" Even got to the OO to tell Trump what peace
was all about. Trump pretended to listen. People were enchanted. "How
    peppy!"

Things were hunky dory until Trump took the word "willing" in CoW
literally. That surfaced about a week ago or so. The Putin dictated
draft for a ceasefire treaty mentions Finland explicitly as one of the
    CoW guarantors of peace.

Woah! "What have we done?! We have to put up?!"

"No way!", says the brave Finnskie. A week ago, the local minister of
war refused to elaborate on what this guaranteeing business actually was about. "Imma busy".

Today, while the prez responsible for foreign policy is nowhere to be
found, the PM not responsible for foreign policy says "guaranteeing"
never quite meant what you all thought it did. Ok. "We have never seen anything explicit on what these guarantees might mean", he sez after
having forgotten the words of Starmer. "You must understand that
quarantees are something sirious, and we are not ready to give those guarantees. But we can do a bit of this and that here and there", he continues. "The guarantees in the plan for peace are not the same as
what Europe has prepared up to this point".

I guess, that's it for heavy lifting.
