Unsophisticated Prediction Tiers Season 65 - League URU/PAR, Match Day
    2 (2026/2/28-1)

    What to do
    -----------

Look at the fixtures below: do you play home or away?

    *Home*
    - Before Thursday (= before 2026/2/25, 23:59 GMT)
=- Pick one team from each of the two matches, in order of preference
    *Away*
=- After Wednesday (or even sooner, if the home player has picked
their teams) and before kickoff of the first match on Saturday
    2026/2/28
    - Pick one of the teams not picked by your opponent (if they haven't
picked any team, you have free choice)
=- their opponents will represent your opponent

*ATTENTION: NEW RULE*: If the away player doesn't pick any team before
his/her deadline, the home player will be represented by the team that
achieves the best outcome out of his/her two picked teams. If the home
player doesn't pick any team before his deadline, the away player can
pick two teams (one from each match), and he/she will be represented
by the team that achieves the best outcome out of his/her two picked
    teams.
If nobody picks a team, teams are assigned randomly.

I thought the match started when the gamemaster posts the games to
predict. After all, by the time the match in the real world starts,
there's nothing that the coaches of The Doctor and Mark can do to
influence the outcome. The playing the game part is making our
    predictions.

I'm not sure that a manager can be asked to pick the team for match B
before postponed match A is played. What if a player gets injured in
    match A?

Conventional wisdom is to take each game as it comes. The result of the previous game could influence a manager's approach to the game.

Yes but it's more fun if you pretend you are the manager of a real
football team, and take each match seriously. UPT should be realistic,
and playing 2 matches simultaneously isn't realistic.

Conventional wisdom is to take each game as it comes. The
result of the previous game could influence a manager's

    the consequences of!)

That may be true, but there's still plenty of situations when the
result of the previous game could influence a manager's approach to the
game. And some of them apply to UPT.

I understand this, but there is a tradeoff between keeping the game
realistic and maintaining the flow. I prefer sacrificing a bit of
realism if that means not having to skip a week. My impression is that
the majority of UPT players are also OK with this approach, but we can
have a poll at season's end to see what people think.

Both Silver Skull and I forgot to pick. I just asked ChatGpt to pick a
number between 1 and 4, and it picked 3. So, Silver Skull gets Club
Nacional (the third team in the list), I get Guarani. The match kicks
off in a few hours, which should be enough proof (in case you don't
trust the honesty of the gamemaster) that I didn't rig the draw.

This post me inspired my truest statement about LLMs ever: "The only
thing LLMs suck at more than being deterministic is being random."

I hope one day you'll learn about coins, random.org, etc.

(Anyway: at least share the conversation with ChatGPT...)

    2 (2026/2/28-1)

    Results and standings:

    Tier 1
    ----
The Doctor 1-1 Mark (Club Nacional - Guaran0)
    Jesus Petry 0-1 Lloo (Nacional - Pe+arol)

Pts M GF GA GD Picks Team
    6 2 2 0 2 2 Lloo
    2 2 2 2 0 2 Mark
    1 2 1 2 -1 2 Jesus Petry
    1 2 1 2 -1 2 The Doctor

Lleo races to the top of the table, everybosy else far behind.

    Tier 2
    ----
    Blueshirt 1-1 MH (Guaran0 - Club Nacional)
Jesper Lauridsen 0-1 Werner Pichler (Nacional - Pe+arol)

Pts M GF GA GD Picks Team
    6 2 2 0 2 2 Werner Pichler
    3 2 4 1 3 2 Jesper Lauridsen
    1 2 1 2 -1 2 Blueshirt
    1 2 1 5 -4 2 MH

Werner wins the top of the table clash.

    Tier 3
    ----
Silver Skull 1-1 Futbolmetrix (Club Nacional - Guaran0) milivella 1-0 Homer Simpson (Pe+arol - Nacional)

Pts M GF GA GD Picks Team
    4 2 5 1 4 1 Futbolmetrix
    3 2 1 4 -3 2 milivella
    2 2 1 1 0 0 Silver Skull
    1 2 0 1 -1 2 Homer Simpson

milivella takes advantage of the fact that he was playing against a
stupid BOT and puts some points on the board.

Quickie additional comment: we all ended up Club Nacional-Guarani and
the Uruguayan Clasico. The latter sounded like a typical Classico:
tight match, decided by a late goal, cards of all colors flying.

As for Club Nacional-Guarani, the goal for the home team was scored by
Roque Santa Cruz. Yes, that Roque Santa Cruz, still going strong at
    the tender age of 44...

I was alredy on ChatGPT, couldn't be bothered to open random.org

Nah. I was actually trying to see if it could help me set up the World
Cup SophCon (need to plan ahead), and it was a bit frustrating...my
manual approach was much faster. Anyway, I don't want to post the full conversation and show you how bad I am at prompting it. In the middle
of the convesration, I asked it to pick a number between 1 and 4
