• What's the most boring football match you've ever seen?

Mine was an English Cup game in 1991 between Crystal Palace and
Nottingham Forest. They drew 0-0. I was extremely close to switching
the TV off even though I had nothing else to do. It was horrible!

    It was sooo boring!

Don't all matches take second place to Egypt v Republic of Ireland from
Italia '90 in the boringness stakes?

Arguably Switzerland v Ukraine from World Cup 2006 was just as boring (I
even recall BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson asking "do you think anyone's
still watching?") but was somewhat redeemed by at least having a penalty shootout at the end.

    Biggest disappointment regarding a high-profile
match I actually made an effort to organise watching
with friends has to be the 2014 World Cup semifinal
between Argentina and the Netherlands. It was on
quite late and I think I actually fell asleep at some point
    in the second half.

    Ciao.

    A long-time lurker, but I couldn't resist this one...

I don't watch very much, but I saw this one, and even before I saw the
replies to this thread, I thought of this match.

It was pretty awful, and I remember that neither team seemed to be
interested in doing anything except waiting for a shootout.

I seem to recall that that whole group, overall, was quite boring, but
would have to review the other matches to be sure (and fair to the other teams/games).

    Indeed, good pick.

On the international arena, Uruguay 0-1 Argentina in the last round of Conmebol's 2010 WCQ was one that sprung to my mind. In theory it was a
high stakes game, since Ecuador could overtake the loser of this match
had they won their own one (away to Chile) at the same time. In
practice, my recollection of it is that it was a drab affair, decided by
a goal in the end that was largely irrelevant, as it was more or less
clear that Ecuador was not going to do their bit (they were losing 0-1,
which was the final score of their game too).

At club level I was reminded of Vasco vs Palmeiras in the Brasileir|uo
2010. Again, my recollection by now is hazy, but my takeaway was that
both sides were incapable of taking a shot within 5 meters of the target
(over and sideways), and some ironic commentary by a bored Milton Leite
    on the TV booth.

    Best regards,

Was that worse than England v Ireland at that World Cup?

(I can't remember whether I saw Egypt v Ireland or not.)

Yes! There was two goals in the England v Ireland match. (It
was 1-1.) The Egypt v Ireland game finished 0-0 and seemed to
be all about who defended better... attacking moments were few
and far between. That game was enough to put anyone to sleep.

What's the most boring match you've ever seen?

Has anybody ever seen West Germany v Austria in the 1982 World Cup?
Part of the reason I started this thread was because I'm thinking of
watching that some time just to see what it was like. Would it be worth watching just to see what it was like, or is it too likely to be
    extremely boring?

    Yes. It was a fix!

Even though it wasn't a 0-0 bore draw, it was clear that
both teams were doing the bare minimum to ensure they both
    went through...

Why would you bother? Once the German's scored early on, that
was basically the end of the match for all intents and purposes.

To see what it was like. What happened after the goal? Were there any
near misses? Or was it a 1-0 bore win?

To see what it was like.

Go and do something more exciting... like watch paint dry.

    What happened after the goal?

Nothing much... you'd see more action in a game of Bowls.

there any near misses? Or was it a 1-0 bore win?

Near miss? They'd have to be trying to have a near miss?! It
was a Germanic fix... plain and simple.

Or as the game is more commonly known now... it was the
    "Disgrace of Gijon"!
