• Dylan as a popular singer

If memory serves, it was around '73 when Mr. Bojangles got a lot
of airplay here, and it was belted out by . . . Bob Dylan!

But Bob wasn't the one who penned it. Is there another track
(besides the stuff with The Band) that made waves or is still
popular, where he's just the vocalist but didn't write the lyrics?

By the way: That tune is a real gem.

Also in 1973, US Columbia released "A Fool Such as I" as a single.
Written by Bill Trader, it was first released in 1952 by Hank Snow,
peaking on the country charts at #4. In 1959, it became a #1 hit for
Elvis. It only got to #55 for Dylan and did just about as well in
    Australia.

It was an interesting time for Dylan, late 1973 and suddenly he was
    everywhere.

On the covers of Time and Newsweek, two new albums released pretty much
at the same time, Planet Waves and Dylan, and of course that high
    profile tour was The Band.

Good times to become a Bob Dylan fan< which I did, of course.
