These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2024-11-18,
    and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of What She Said, and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation of
current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting
of other rounds. For further information please see my 2024-08-30
companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition
    (QFTCI*)".

    * Game 10, Round 4 - Miscellaneous - Nerdy Hobbies

There are probably lots of hobbies you didn't even know were
hobbies! For questions #1-6, we'll describe a nerdy hobby, and
you tell us what that hobby is called.

    1. Designing and wearing outfits based on characters from anime,
    comics, and movies.

    2. Finding hidden markers in the wilderness with only GPS
    coordinates as your guide.

    3. Reprogramming computer games to make them work differently so
players can have new play experiences, such as new characters and
abilities, or even completely changing the game into something
    wildly different.

    4. Programming interfaces and playing old video games (including
both arcade games and home-console games) from earlier decades
    on modern computers.

    5. It's like Dungeons & Dragons, except instead of having character
sheets and playing at a kitchen table, you're out in the woods
doing it sort-of-for-real with weapons made of foam.

    6. It's like <answer 5>, except instead of pretending to be fantasy
warriors and wizards, you're pretending to be real people from
actual history, often soldiers in battles.

For questions #7-10, we'll be naming manufacturers or brands of
a particular type of thing that people collect, and you tell us
    what the thing is.

    7. Models of which type of animal are made by, among others,
    Breyer, Schleich, Copperfox, and Beswick?

    8. Models of this type are sold unconstructed and the hobby,
known by fans as "gunpla" ["gun-PLAH"] for one of the major
manufacturers, involves the building and painting of them as
well as the collecting. Brands include Gundam, Armored Core,
    Macross, and Evangelion.

    9. A classic collection choice, companies making these models
include Atlas, Marklin, Lionel, and Bachmann, among many others.

    10. These models are released at scales between 1:64 and 1:23,
and major manufacturers include Jada, Kinsmart, Majorette,
Greenlight, as well as the two biggest manufacturers, which
we won't name because the question would be far too easy.
    Models of what?

    * Game 10, Round 5 - Audio - Oscar-Winning Movie Scores

We'll give you the year a movie was released and the composer
who won an Oscar for its original score; you tell us the movie.
In the original game we would have played an audio clip, but you
shouldn't need that here, should you?

*Note*: If the movie is part of a series, we need the full title.

    1. Alan Menken, 1991.
    2. Howard Shore, 2001.
    3. John Williams, 1993.
    4. Maurice Jarre, 1962.
    5. Henry Mancini, 1961.
    6. Giorgio Moroder, 1978.
    7. Jerry Goldsmith, 1976.
    8. Ludwig Goransson, 2019.
    9. Alexandre Desplat, 2014.
    10. Michael Giacchino, 2009.

    * Game 10, Round 6 - Science - Pretty Flowers

Simple round we've got here! We've given you a 2-page handout with
a bunch of pretty flowers on it: we'll name the flower, and you
identify it on the handout. Also, this is a science round because
flowers are how many plants reproduce. See? That's science.

    Please see:

    http://www.vex.net/~msb/tmp/qftci/10:6/flow.pdf

(Note that the numbers are *above* the images.)

    1. Peony.
    2. Dahlia.
    3. Zinnia.
    4. Hyacinth.
    5. Hydrangea.
    6. Calla lily.
    7. Sweet William.
    8. Chrysanthemum.
    9. African violet.
    10. Queen Anne's lace.

If you like, decode the rot13 to see the flowers for the 8 decoys
and answer for them for fun, but for no points.

    11. Iris.
    12. Pansy.
    13. Daffodil.
    14. Marigold.
    15. Carnation.

    * Game 10, Round 4 - Miscellaneous - Nerdy Hobbies

There are probably lots of hobbies you didn't even know were
hobbies! For questions #1-6, we'll describe a nerdy hobby, and
you tell us what that hobby is called.

    1. Designing and wearing outfits based on characters from anime,
    comics, and movies.

Cosplay. 4 for Dan Blum, Joshua, Dan Tilque, and Pete.

    2. Finding hidden markers in the wilderness with only GPS
    coordinates as your guide.

Geocaching. 4 for Dan Blum, Dan Tilque, and Pete.

Orienteeting does not involve "finding hidden markers".

    3. Reprogramming computer games to make them work differently so
players can have new play experiences, such as new characters and
abilities, or even completely changing the game into something
    wildly different.

    Modding.

    4. Programming interfaces and playing old video games (including
both arcade games and home-console games) from earlier decades
    on modern computers.

Emulation. 4 for Dan Blum and Joshua.

    5. It's like Dungeons & Dragons, except instead of having character
sheets and playing at a kitchen table, you're out in the woods
doing it sort-of-for-real with weapons made of foam.

Live-action roleplaying (LARPing). 4 for Dan Blum, Joshua,
    and Dan Tilque.

    6. It's like <answer 5>, except instead of pretending to be fantasy
warriors and wizards, you're pretending to be real people from
actual history, often soldiers in battles.

Historical reenactment. 4 for Dan Blum, Joshua, and Dan Tilque.

For questions #7-10, we'll be naming manufacturers or brands of
a particular type of thing that people collect, and you tell us
    what the thing is.

    7. Models of which type of animal are made by, among others,
    Breyer, Schleich, Copperfox, and Beswick?

    Horse. 4 for Dan Blum.

Mecha, armored battlesuits, or giant robots. 4 for Dan Blum.

    9. A classic collection choice, companies making these models
include Atlas, Marklin, Lionel, and Bachmann, among many others.

Trains. 4 for everyone -- Dan Blum, Erland, Joshua, Dan Tilque,
    and Pete.

    10. These models are released at scales between 1:64 and 1:23,
and major manufacturers include Jada, Kinsmart, Majorette,
Greenlight, as well as the two biggest manufacturers, which
we won't name because the question would be far too easy.
    Models of what?

    Cars. 4 for Erland.

    * Game 10, Round 5 - Audio - Oscar-Winning Movie Scores

    4 Dan_Blum The Little Mermaid
    4 Pete Titanic

    2. Howard Shore, 2001.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring". 4 for Joshua.

    6. Giorgio Moroder, 1978.

    "Midnight Express". 4 for Joshua.

    7. Jerry Goldsmith, 1976.

    "The Omen". 4 for Joshua.

    "Black Panther".

    9. Alexandre Desplat, 2014.

    "The Grand Budapest Hotel".

    10. Michael Giacchino, 2009.

    "Up".

    * Game 10, Round 6 - Science - Pretty Flowers

Simple round we've got here! We've given you a 2-page handout with
a bunch of pretty flowers on it: we'll name the flower, and you
identify it on the handout. Also, this is a science round because
flowers are how many plants reproduce. See? That's science.

Well, it does involve finding things, but they are not really
    hidden.

But much more importantly, it does involve any GPS.

It does *not* involve any GPS. I lost an important word there.
