    These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2025-01-20,
    and should be interpreted accordingly.

    On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
    both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
    Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
    based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
    the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
    the correct answers in about 3 days.

    All questions were written by members of the Night Owls, and are
    used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
    been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation of
    current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting
    of other rounds. For further information please see my 2024-08-30
    companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition
    (QFTCI*)".

    * Game 1, Round 4 - History - A Year in the Life

    We name a historical figure; you name any year when he was alive.

    1. Terry Fox.
    2. Confucius.
    3. Genghis Khan.
    4. Atilla the Hun.
    5. Emperor Hadrian.
    6. Johannes Brahms.
    7. Nicolaus Copernicus.
    8. Louis XIII of France.
    9. Emperor Xerxes I (the Great).
    10. Prime Minister Sir John Thompson.

    * Game 1, Round 5 - Canadiana Audio - Canadians on the "Hot 100"

    This is a round on Canadians who have reached #1 on Billboard's
    "Hot 100" since the year 2000. The year will be given as a clue.
    In the original game you would've heard a clip from the song;
    here I'll just give you the title. In each case, name the singer
    or band. If the performance is a duet, name the *Canadian* singer.

    Answers do not repeat.

    1. "Rude" (2014).
    2. "Bad Day" (2006).
    3. "Girlfriend" (2007).
    4. "What's Next" (2023).
    5. "Say It Right" (2007).
    6. "Call Me Maybe" (2012).
    7. "Senorita" (2019, duet).
    8. "How You Remind Me" (2001
    9. "What Do You Mean" (2015).
    10. "Die for You" (originally released in 2016, but only reached #1
    in 2023 with the duet version).

    * Game 1, Round 6 - Sports - Champions of 2000

    This is a round on champions and runner-ups in the year 2000.
    Note that this refers to championships determined that year, so
    in leagues that have a 1999-2000 season, it'd be the champioship
    for that season.

    In each case you may name *either* the championship team *or*
    the runner-up, and you may name then *either* by place name
    *or* by team name, as they were at the time.

    1. Grey Cup.

    2. NBA Finals.
    3. Vanier Cup.
    4. Super Bowl.
    5. World Series.
    6. Stanley Cup Finals.
    7. Wimbledon Men's Singles Final.
    8. Wimbledon Women's Singles Final.
    9. Premiership or Premier League (English soccer).

    10. Euro Cup 2000 (soccer). *Note*: This is not the UEFA Cup or
    the UEFA Europa League. Each team in the Euro Cup represents
    a *country*.
