The world has turned upside down.

Service at the local DMV has gotten quite decent, and has gone to hell
at the two local banks where I keep balances.

The federal government has really fucked up banking, but some banks lean
into the fucking harder than others.

Yesterday I watched two different tellers try to illegally fund a
cashiers check from my mom's bank account while I was standing there
with cash in my hand saying cash over and over and over. One couldn't
handle their repeated inability to even enter my name and ran off saying
I had a bad attitude and would have to deal with somebody else. Total shrinking violet meltdown over their own incompetence.

I don't like banks inherently on a base level, but when I walked in I
put on a fake smile and a fake front. I was nice. I was friendly. I
was clear. By the time I left I was swearing and had to grit my teeth
to barely choke out, "You have a great day," as I walked away.

Its a sad day for banking when the DMV becomes the standard for customer service they should aspire to.

Of the two local banks (I use a couple out of town banks as well) where
I do business that is the one that sucks harder. I just went there
because the lines at the other one where quite long and their parking
lot was almost completely full. Now I know why there was no line at
that one. Nobody else wants to go there either.

I guess we're just lucky ... and it IS a small town . I can walk into my
bank and write a counter check for several thousand in cash and never
    get asked for ID .
