I just did some research and "mud} is defined as a mixture of earth
(dirt) and water.... no cow 'stuff" at all.
From the Wiki - Mud (from Middle Low German mudde, mod(de) 'thick
mud', or Middle Dutch)[1] is loam, silt or clay mixed with water.

Over less than one summer cow patties reduce to "earth" or dirt if you like. Some farmers can pile up a mountain of feces in just one summer with only four milk cows as my cousin did. You have to dry this out completely before you can use it as fertilizer.
